"Game of Thrones" Season 4 Episode 1, titled "Two Swords," is the first episode of the fourth season and picks up where the previous season left off.


In King's Landing, Tywin Lannister has melted down Ned Stark's Valyrian steel sword, "Ice," and has reforged it into two blades. One is given to Jaime Lannister, who lost his hand and is struggling with his identity as the "Kingslayer." The other is given to the King's Guard, which leads to tension between Jaime and the other members of the Guard.


In the Riverlands, the Brotherhood Without Banners, led by Beric Dondarrion, come across Sandor Clegane (The Hound) and Arya Stark, who are still on the run. They take them prisoner and plan to bring them to trial for their crimes.

In the East, Daenerys Targaryen and her army continue their journey to Meereen, and they come across a slave camp where they free the slaves. However, they also discover that the slave masters have crucified all the slave children as a warning to others.


In the Iron Islands, Balon Greyjoy receives a visit from his brother, Euron, who has returned after being away for many years. Euron reveals that he has a plan to conquer the Seven Kingdoms and offers to join forces with Balon.


The episode ends with the introduction of Prince Oberyn Martell of Dorne, who has arrived in King's Landing for the wedding of Joffrey Baratheon and Margaery Tyrell.
